Medico-Legal Services
Medical assessments and reports prepared for legal, insurance, or workplace purposes, handled with the appropriate care and confidentiality.
Certain situations call for a medical assessment that goes beyond routine care, whether for a legal matter, an insurance claim, or a workplace requirement. Primecare Medical Health Centre provides medico-legal services at both our Sasolburg and Phalaborwa practices.
These assessments are conducted with the same care and attention as any other consultation, even though the purpose of the visit is administrative rather than purely clinical.
What are medico-legal services?
Medico-legal services involve a medical examination and a written report prepared for a specific, non-clinical purpose. This might be requested by an attorney, an insurer, an employer, or another third party who needs a documented account of your medical condition.
When might I need this service?
You may be referred for a medico-legal assessment following an injury, an accident, or a workplace incident, or as part of an insurance or legal process. Reports are prepared factually and objectively, based on the examination and any relevant history provided.
What happens during the assessment?
Your appointment includes a consultation and examination relevant to the reason for referral, followed by a written report. Where the assessment relates to a specific incident, bring along any supporting documentation, such as previous medical records or correspondence from the requesting party.
Will you handle my documentation with confidentiality?
Medico-legal reports are handled with the same confidentiality as any other medical record. They are only shared with the party who requested the assessment, or as otherwise required by law.
What is the turnaround time?
Reports are prepared once the assessment is complete and are typically ready within a reasonable timeframe, depending on the complexity of the case and whether further tests or records are required. If your matter has a specific deadline, let your practitioner know at the time of booking so this can be taken into account.
Reports are prepared by the practitioner who conducted the assessment, ensuring the account given reflects a direct clinical examination rather than a review of documents alone.
