Whether you are considering a circumcision or need ongoing wound care, Primecare Medical Health Centre provides this service at both our Sasolburg and Phalaborwa practices. Patients are welcome to discuss any concerns beforehand, whether about the procedure itself, recovery time, or general aftercare, so there are no unanswered questions on the day.

What does this service include?

This service covers circumcision procedures, along with wound care and dressing changes for a range of injuries and post-procedure needs. Each appointment includes an assessment beforehand to confirm whether the procedure is appropriate for you.

What happens during the procedure?

Circumcision is performed under local anaesthetic in a consulting room setting. Your practitioner will talk you through what to expect before the procedure begins, along with aftercare instructions for the days that follow.

How should I care for my wound afterwards?

Wound care appointments typically involve cleaning the area, changing dressings, and checking for signs of infection. Follow-up visits are scheduled based on how the wound is healing, and you are welcome to come in sooner if you notice:

• Increased redness or swelling
• Ongoing pain that does not settle
• Discharge or an unusual smell from the wound

What does the recovery time look like?

Recovery varies from person to person, and your practitioner will give you a general guide based on the procedure or wound in question. Keeping the area clean and attending your scheduled follow-up appointments makes a meaningful difference to how smoothly recovery progresses.

Your practitioner will also advise on activity levels during recovery, including when it is reasonable to return to normal routines such as exercise or physical work.
